A Coasters were an Western doo wop and early rock and roll group, evolving from The Robins, a Los Angeles based doo wop class action. Fallowing A Robins signed by having Atlantic Records (1955, after a massive chart profits of "Smokey Joe's Cafe"), a class action split. Carl Gardner (tenor) and Bobby Nunn (bass) formed The Coasters.

A Coasters continued their association using a Robins' legendary songster, Leiber & Stoller. It presently added Billy Guy (baritone), Leon Hughes (tenor) and Adolph Jacobs (guitar), releasing their first only "Down in Mexico", the major R&B hit in 1956. Inside 1957, The Coasters crossed terminated sustaining "Young Blood"/"Searchin'". This was followed by a dry period of time, & the class action relocated to New York City. Nunne & Hughes left, replaced by Dub Jones (bass, of The Cadets) and Obie Jessie. Jessie was presently replaced by Cornell Gunter (The Flairs). This just freed line-higher released "Yakety-Yak", which involved King Curtis on tenor saxophone. a song wwhen a immense mainstream hit, as was the watch-higher "Charlie Brown". This was followed by "Along Came Jones", "Poison Ivy", "Shoppin' for Clothes" & "Little Egypt".

The series of line-higher changes contributed to the want of hits in the 1960s. A Coasters signed by owning Columbia Records, but were never entity to regain their previous fame. A Coasters survive hit was "Love Potion No. 9" within 1971. Many groups utilized a title in the 1970s, touring throughout a united states, though Gardner held the legal rights to that. Nunn died around 1986, a class action was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one year late. Gunter was murdered within Las Vegas in 1990. A class action was inducted into a Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. Jones died around 2000 and Guy in 2002. Gardner continues to tour when A Coasters & has manufactured numbers of tries to prevent phony groups using there is no connection to the original class action from either using the title.
